Review of J.S. Manifold--An Introduction to the Man and his Work by Rodney Hall

Abstract

This work is primarily a public introduction to the man through his social, political and literary history. The book was written after five years of research and some sixteen hours and recorded interviews, and Rodney Hall is to be commended for producing a largely impartial portrait of his mentor and close friend. He achieves this by allowing Manifold to speak for himself and by substantiating his own comments through a critical analysis of the man's work. The resulting blend of autobiography, biography and critical study provides a fairly comprehensive view of the man and the artist.
